Dzandura village projects: Ellen Kaminyu

Ellen Kaminyu 50, of Dzandura village, Seke, in Mashonaland East says she has benefited a lot from her involvement in programs organised by SHDF in her area .  “I am grateful to SHDF, I wouldn’t have attained all that I have without their assistance and guidance.” stated Kaminyu.

Kaminyu has been an active member of SHDF since 1992. She says she started off by investing 20c per week in her savings club.

Over the years she increased her contribution to the savings club and her money increased.

Kaminyu says she managed to start a poultry business with the money she obtained from her savings club. Following her involvement in the savings clubs, in 2004 Kaminyu managed to buy a 7 roomed house in Tafara suburb in Harare.

“I was very happy to be one of the women who are economically empowered, I wasn’t interested in moving to Harare after buying that house, I decided to rent it out to tenants who send rentals to me every month end.’ stated Kaminyu.

Kaminyu is also involved in goat and cattle rearing and she says her involvement in income generating projects has helped her fight poverty and has also increased her household income. She adds that this has given her financial independence and peace in her marriage. Kaminyu is a mother of four.
